Brian Zinchuk column: The implications of the recently announced CCUS strategy could be vast for this province
The federal government allowing an input tax credit for carbon dioxide utilized in enhanced oil recovery could result in billions in project in Saskatchewan, thousands of jobs, and dramatically reduced emissions. If only the feds are willing to give up some carbon tax money.
Saskatchewan sets the regulatory stage for CCUS, wants feds to include carbon tax credit, support
WEYBURN – Saskatchewan hasn’t given up on carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS). Far from it, as its Energy and Resources Minister Bronwyn Eyre announced on Sept. 7 the government’s strategies to further develop its implementation throughout the province. That announcement laid the foundation for what could result in not one, but multiple carbon capture hubs, and their implementation.
Carbon capture and utilization announcement laying groundwork for carbon trunk system: Whitecap CEO
We know we’re going to be paying carbon tax. If a carbon tax credit is equal to the carbon tax paid, Whitecap Resources feels it can make it work, putting captured carbon dioxide into the ground, meeting carbon targets, and everyone’s happy.

EDITORIAL: Context, not sound bites
I can’t promise that Pipeline Online stories are going to be the first you see in your social media news feeds. That’s because I’ve attended events where other Saskatchewan media have a story online before I’ve even packed up my cameras.
But here’s the difference: they plucked a couple soundbites from the event, threw up a few sentences in piece in quest to be first up, but in many cases that’s it. Onto the next thing. I noticed this in particular at an oil and gas rally held in Moosomin a few years ago. The large media not only had a reporter and camera person asking questions, they had another person on a laptop in the back, writing a story as the event was going on, and posting it around the time or almost immediately after the scrum at the end. How can you possibly know the story when the event isn’t even over yet?
The era of dirt-cheap gas may be over
Regina – The era of dirt-cheap natural gas might be coming to an end in Saskatchewan, for the foreseeable future. For consumers, it means prices are going up, but it also means more cash for producers.
On Sept. 10, the province’s natural gas utility, SaskEnergy, announced it has applied to the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel to increase its commodity rate, which would continue to be the lowest in Western Canada and the second lowest in the country. In nearly all cases, such requests are approved by the Rate Review Panel.
