Crude oil tumbles on report that OPEC plus could hike production
Crude oil prices slumped to a 10-month low Monday morning before rebounding at midday, adding to the volatility that has dogged the Canadian energy sector recently.
The benchmark West Texas Intermediate plunged by as much as US$5 in the early part of the day, trading as low as US$75 in reaction to a Wall Street Journal report saying Saudi Arabia and other OPEC-plus countries may increase oil output by up to 500,000 barrels per day at their Dec. 4 meeting.

Jordan B. Peterson interviews Alberta Premier Danielle Smith in “Showdown with Ottawa”
Jordan B. Peterson goes into great depth with new Alberta Premier Danielle Smith about all things energy for most of the first half of the interview. They talk about building a corridor from Fort McMurray, across Saskatchewan to Churchill or Fort Nelson, and sending Manitoba hydro power back the other way.
She also talks about how “we’re never going to get to 100 per cent renewable. I may as well put that on the table.”

Climate compensation fund approved, other issues up in air
SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt (AP) — Negotiators early Sunday approved a historic deal that would create a fund for compensating poor nations that are victims of extreme weather worsened by rich countries’ carbon pollution, but an overall larger agreement still was up in the air because of a fight over emission reduction efforts.
After that vote, talks on other aspects of the negotiations were put on hold while delegates were given 30 minutes to read texts of other measures they were to vote on.
Last minute objections threaten historic UN climate deal

Lithium in SK, Part 2: Saskatchewan government launches lithium incentives
Saskatchewan has a new opportunity to be part of the electrification revolution, but how will help out the fledgling lithium industry? The same way it is helping helium, oil and gas.
On Nov. 7, Minister of Energy and Resources Jim Reiter announced Saskatchewan would be extending its go-to incentive programs to lithium. The programs are the Oil and Gas Processing Investment Incentive (OGPII) and Saskatchewan Petroleum Innovation Incentive (SPII).
And, apparently, they work, as industry leader Prairie Lithium has already successfully taken advantage of SPII.
Lithium in SK Part 1: As the race for lithium takes off, Saskatchewan is seeing the dawn of a new industry
If you’re reading this on your phone, tablet or laptop, it is being powered by a lithium battery. If you plan on ever owning an electric vehicle, it is almost certainly going to use a lithium battery, and a very large, heavy one at that. But actually, since it’s made of lithium, it will be lighter than any other battery commercially viable at this time.
And that’s why lithium is so important. And Saskatchewan is poised to play a major role.
This is going to be the most in-depth coverage regarding the development of Lithium in this province. There’s going to be well over a dozen stories. Once you’ve read them all, you’ll have a really good idea of just what exactly is going on in the race for lithium.

The Canadian Press op-ed: Ending the climate crisis has one simple solution: Stop using fossil fuels
“If we don’t end the use of fossil fuels, all of the rest adds up to little more than branches piled on the tracks in front of a runaway train. They might slow the train temporarily, but until we get inside the engine and shut off the throttle, the train will keep accelerating,” say two university professors in this op-ed piece.

Climate activists throw liquid at Klimt painting in Vienna
BERLIN (AP) — Climate activists in Austria on Tuesday attacked a famous painting by artist Gustav Klimt with a black, oily liquid and one then glued himself to glass protecting the painting’s frame.
Members of the group Last Generation Austria tweeted they had targeted the 1915 painting “Death and Life” at the Leopold Museum in Vienna to protest their government’s use of fossil energies.
After throwing the liquid on the painting, which wasn’t damaged, one activist was pushed away by a museum guard while another glued his hand to the glass over the painting’s frame.
Brian Crossman: Be interesting
If you have chosen this industry, you will continue to meet amazing and highly successful people, many of whom started out with nothing. Now these same people are presidents, vice presidents and owners of companies. Many of them have worked all over the world, in some very interesting (sometimes scary) places. If you have the opportunity, and you will, be sure to talk to these guys, learn about their experiences, and maybe try these things on your own. There is some real adventure to be had if you are so inclined. I have friends that have worked pretty much anywhere there is oil and gas to be found. They have seen and done things that will blow your mind. These fellas can tell you some extremely interesting stories about the energy industry and the people that work in it.

Brian Zinchuk: 400 private jets show up for the COP27 climate conference, and you could buy one of them!
So I don’t know what a UK-registered executive jet was doing bounding around Saudi Arabia, nor am I sure what it was doing in Egypt. Perhaps they just wanted to get some sun at the famous Egyptian resort between the desert of the Sinai Peninsula and the Red Sea. It’s known for its sheltered sandy beaches, clear waters and coral reefs, Wikipedia says.
Or maybe, just maybe, its passengers were attending the COP27 climate conference going on at this time. Let’s go with that.
As Alberta’s wind power generation collapsed this week, so, too did Saskatchewan’s
If you want to know what the weather is going to be like in Saskatchewan, look to Alberta, and you’ll get a good idea. So if wind power crates in Albert on Tuesday, expect the same to happen in Saskatchewan on Wednesday. And that’s exactly what happened.

Alberta’s now 32 wind farms with 3,076 megawatts capacity put out just 15 megawatts at supper on Tuesday, and 3 megawatts at midnight
According to Dispatcho.app, in the 30 days prior to Nov. 4, those four batteries collectively contributed power to the grid just 339 minutes in total, out of 43,200 minutes available to them collectively (60 minutes * 24 hours/day * 30 days * 4 batteries). eReserve 1 Rycroft produced power just four times in 30 days, for a total of 90 minutes. eReserve 2 Buffalo Creek contributed power four times, from five to 16 minutes a crack for a total of 34 minutes in 30 days. eReserve 3 Mercer Hill produced power five times, from five to 16 minutes per occasion, totaling 42 minutes in 30 days. NDP critic Aleana Young asks if the Saskatchewan First Act constitutional? Is it window dressing?
REGINA – Is the Saskatchewan First Act window dressing? Is it unconstitutional?
These are questions NDP Regina University MLA Aleana Young is asking. She’s critic for both Energy and Resources and SaskPower. Both of those areas are key considerations specifically listed within the Saskatchewan First Act.
That act was introduced by introduced by Minister of Justice and Attorney General Bronwyn Eyre on Nov. 1, with the intention of “reasserting” Saskatchewan’s jurisdiction on resources, environmental regulation, power production and fertilizer usage. It’s the Saskatchewan Party government’s response to what it believes has been overreach by the federal government into nine different areas, all in the name of climate change.
New Alberta energy minister to keep coal moratorium, consider well clean-up breaks
Alberta’s new energy minister has promised to maintain an order protecting the Rocky Mountains in the province from coal development, for now.
However, Peter Guthrie says his department is already working on a controversial program to give oil companies breaks on their royalties to clean up old wells.
McKenna-led UN group calls for regulation, end to greenwashing in net-zero pledges
“We set very clear red lines on greenwashing. This is what you cannot do, if you announce publicly, you put up your hand and you say I’m a climate leader,” said Catherine McKenna. “You cannot claim to be net zero by continuing to build or invest in new fossil fuel supply.”
