Aquistore runs crosswell seismic survey to monitor CO2 injection
One of those numerous baselines was running a “crosswell seismic tomography” survey between the injection and observation wells. That basically mean putting an energy source in one well, then putting a seismic array down the second, and doing a vertical seismic survey. The initial crosswell survey was done nine years ago before injection began. Now, starting on Oct. 25, the Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC), which administers Aquistore for SaskPower, started doing a follow up crosswell seismic tomography survey.

ts hard to believe that there is such a thing as the “Northeast Saskatchewan Oilpatch” but in a strange way, there is such a place. Instead of Estevan, think Hudson Bay. Weyburn – think Arborfield. Heck, the area even has coal!
This is not normally an area familiar to the denizens of Saskatchewan’s more conventional “patch,” so Carol Heaslip threw together a map for me showing the geography and the “hot” zones. First, get yourself to Saskatoon, then progress on Highway 41 about 150 kilometres to the northeast to Melfort. From here, its about another hour and a half east to Hudson Bay, and along the route you will see the main geographic feature of the northeast – the Pasquia Hills.

Federated Co-op announces carbon capture MOU with Whitecap Resources for refinery, ethanol plant
SASKATOON, CALGARY, REGINA – Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) and Whitecap Resources announced a memorandum of understanding on Oct. 21 to capture carbon dioxide at two major FCL facilities and inject it into the Whitecap-operated Weyburn Unit for enhanced oil recovery and storage. It was the biggest announcement on the carbon capture, utilization and storage front since SaskPower announced Boundary Dam Unit 3 in 2011.

Questerre Energy Corp. president and CEO Michael Binnion has long been outspoken on Quebec energy policy, as one of the few companies who have earnestly tried to develop oil and gas in La Belle Province. That company, whose operations include the Antler region, near Redvers, Saskatchewan, had, in the past leased large amounts of acreage in Quebec, but couldn’t do anything with it due to that province’s ban on fracking.
