Baiton replaces outgoing president and CEO Tim McMillan, who has led the oil and gas lobby group for the last eight years.

WEYBURN – When he spoke at the 2019 Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Show in Weyburn, the usually noisy room was silent, rapt with attention. Now Rex Murphy will be speaking again in just a few weeks time, at this year’s edition of the oil show.
Murphy will close out the show with the last luncheon, speaking at 12:30 on Thursday, June 2.
US decides to limit leasing in Alaska petroleum reserve
JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — The U.S. Interior Department has issued a decision to limit roughly half the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska to oil and gas leasing, rolling back a Trump-era policy criticized by conservationists that would have vastly expanded lands available for potential development.
The plan would prevent oil and gas development in areas considered important for sensitive bird populations and the Teshekpuk and Western Arctic caribou herds, the decision dated Monday states.

World Bank forecasts elevated commodity prices to remain through end of 2024
WASHINGTON — The World Bank says commodity prices that reached historically elevated levels because of the war in Ukraine will remain high through the end of 2024.
The agency’s commodity markets outlook report released Tuesday says energy prices, food and fertilizer have sustained the largest commodity shock since the 1970s.
Keystone Royalty Part 5: Dealing with the ESG movement as it tries to choke off investment in oil and gas
Pipeline Online has heard a narrative that goes something like this: despite high oil prices, many oil companies are not spending a lot on drilling. They are paying off debt as quickly as possible so that when they do want to do more drilling, they can do it out of free cash flow. This is because the ESG (environmental, social and governance) movement has so choked off capital, it’s been hard to get money from either banks or investors.

Keystone Royalty, Part 3: Keystone spawned over a half dozen companies
REGINA – Regina-based Keystone Royalty may now be reaching its own liquidity event, with an acquisition by publicly-traded Topaz Energy, but along the way, the company has spawned seven, yes, seven, exploration companies, one of which is still active.
It all was built on a relatively simple model. Keystone, the parent, had the royalty land, and they would launch exploration companies to drill on said land. Once enough was developed, it would be sold off, usually to a serial acquiring company, and they would start over.

For E. Craig Lothian, president and CEO of Keystone Royalty Group, the actions of the federal government are indeed driving the current profitability of the industry they are trying so hard to choke off. And while they are driving up prices, they’re making it hard to invest in this country.

ESTEVAN – The oilpatch is hiring, and in a big way, in southeast Saskatchewan and southwest Manitoba. If you’re willing to get out in the field and work, some companies are offering starting wages in the $32 dollar range, with no experience. Housing is available, and compared to other parts of Canada, affordable.
One company is willing to pay for a hotel for your first month until you get established. Another group of companies will subsidize housing in their apartments by up to 60 per cent of your rent. They need people, and they need them now.
