Mélanie Joly pushes LNG ties in Japan and South Korea, amid North Korea missiles
By Dylan Robertson in Ottawa Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says Canada is set to become a major energy supplier for Japan and South Korea. On a visit to both countries this week, Joly said she found a growing appetite for liquefied natural gas from...
Letter to Editor: If other provinces choose to embrace energy poverty, that is their decision. Saskatchewan shouldn’t
The government of Saskatchewan has a duty to its citizens to provide reliable, affordable, and secure energy, especially since it is produced within its borders. If other provinces choose to embrace energy poverty, that is their decision; Saskatchewan can choose otherwise and pursue energy and economic prosperity. The question is: Will it do so?

Drawing the Line: Saskatchewan releases white paper defining how federal climate change regulation is choking this province
Saskatchewan is feeling the noose of federal climate change policies and programs tightening around its neck, to the point where, if they are all implemented, the bill to this province could be $111 billion by 2035.
That’s according to a white paper released by Premier Scott Moe in North Battleford on Oct. 11. He spoke to the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce about the white paper entitled Drawing the Line: Defending Saskatchewan’s Economic Autonomy.
Brian Zinchuk: There’s only one word for all the greenhouse gas programs the feds have or will impose on Saskatchewan: strangulation
It’s more than half of the current provincial budget. So how do we come up with that money? How do we pay for all these taxes, manure covers, output-based pricing, new ZEV purchases and the like? How do we do it when our two biggest primary industries are being choked off by these very policies? Where will the money come from? Who gets the privilege of working while the rest of us line up to pay our various greenhouse gas taxes? What will our economy be with reduced ag, and choked-off oil and gas?

From food and fuel to cow crap: How 9 federal climate change policies will suck Saskatchewan dry over the next 12 years
If the current Liberal federal government’s climate change policies are fully enacted between now and 2035, the average cost to Saskatchewan will be more than this province current spends on its entire health care budget, plus the operational cost of its K-12 education system.
Put another way, following nine federal climate change policies and programs will cost this province an average of $8.8 billion each year, more than half of its current $17.6 billion provincial budget. The total by 2035 will be $111 billion.

David Yager: Why ‘the world should be worried’ about oil supplies
Saudi Arabia has reminded us again of the power of the world’s largest oil producer. Through Saudi Aramco, one country with only 35 million people controls 11 per cent of global supply.
Saudi Arabia can influence global oil prices simply by adjusting output. It has demonstrated this many times. The Saudis also control OPEC, but don’t advertise it.
Brian Crossman: Thanksgiving in the oilpatch
But it in these moments in the oilpatch when you find pain and adversity, you also find strength. I am always amazed how humans can not only survive these difficult times, but persevere and become stronger in spite of it all. The times you spend 14 hours on the rig grinding it out, coming home dragging your ass like an “FNG” will tire you out beyond belief. But guess what? You are now stronger, smarter and better for it.
Wind power is not cooking your Thanksgiving turkey in Alberta on Sunday afternoon
If you were sitting Sunday afternoon, letting the turkey digest, so too was wind in Alberta taking a rest. And if your turkey was in the oven for supper, it wasn’t getting cooked by wind power.

Alberta’s wind power generation drops to 18 ten-thousandths of its capacity Saturday evening, or 0.18%
If you were taking out your turkey in Alberta Saturday evening to get ready for Thanksgiving, it’s almost certain your lights were not being powered by wind.
That’s because at 9:18 p.m. on Saturday, Alberta’s fleet of 29 wind farms capable of a nameplate capacity of 2,734 megawatts was contributing five megawatts. That’s 0.18 per cent. That’s 18 ten-thousandths of its capacity.
No summit breakthrough, EU struggles with gas price cap plan
PRAGUE (AP) — European Union leaders struggled Friday to bridge significant differences over a natural gas price cap as winter approaches and Russia’s war in Ukraine fuels a major energy crisis, driving up prices for consumers and businesses.
The price cap is one of several measures the 27-nation bloc is preparing to contain an energy crisis in Europe that some fear could lead to rolling blackouts, factory shutdowns and a deep recession over the winter in economies already weakened by the coronavirus pandemic.
Ontario’s electricity sector will need more natural gas generation: report

EXPLAINER: How will OPEC+ cuts affect oil prices, inflation?
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Major oil-producing countries led by Saudi Arabia and Russia have decided to slash the amount of oil they deliver to the global economy. And the law of supply and demand suggests that can only mean one thing: higher prices are on the way for...

What does a day of power production look like in Saskatchewan? SaskPower substantially increases the amount of power production data it releases in effort to educate public
REGINA – While it’s not the same minute-by-minute data provided by the Alberta Electric System Operator for their grid, SaskPower has begun breaking down where its power is coming from on a daily basis. And the data from Oct. 3 and 4 showed wind generated an average of just 7.3 per cent and 6 per cent of its rated capacity of 615 megawatts. And while the Crown corporation often points out that “conventional coal accounts for approximately 24 per cent of SaskPower’s total generation capacity,” on those days, coal was providing an average of 42 per cent of the power in this province.

OPEC+ makes big oil cut to boost prices; pump costs may rise
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — The OPEC+ alliance of oil-exporting countries decided Wednesday to sharply cut production to support sagging oil prices, a move that could deal the struggling global economy another blow and raise politically sensitive pump prices for U.S. drivers just ahead of key national elections.
Energy ministers meeting at the Vienna headquarters of the OPEC oil cartel cut production by a larger-than-expected 2 million barrels per day starting in November after gathering for their first face-to-face meeting since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Enserva’s statement on capping and cutting oil and gas greenhouse gas emissions, warns of “carbon leakage”
Should Canadian standards be too strict for production, jurisdictions with no or low standards will continue producing and this will lead to increased carbon leakage from energy products. Carbon leakage caused by Canadian policy would create conditions for jurisdictional divestment and in turn decreased Canadian fiscal capacity, weakening multiple net-zero oriented actors and entities. Instead of focusing on domestic reductions, Canada should pursue a net zero strategy that maximizes global decarbonization efforts and is aligned with allied nations’ strategies.
