Gibson Energy now loads supertankers on the Texas Gulf Coast, instead of trucks at Lloydminster
A few years ago, if you were listening to a Gibson Energy Inc. earnings call and heard them talk about tankers, it’s a good bet those were trucks hauling heavy oil around Lloydminster.
The trucks are long gone. On Oct. 31, the tankers Gibson executives were talking about were bigger. A lot bigger. Supertanker bigger.
‘Absolutely not’: No more carve-outs when it comes to carbon pricing, Trudeau says
There will be no further carbon price carve-outs, including for natural gas, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Tuesday, as criticism of his decision to temporarily exempt home heating oil from the policy mounts and his cabinet tries to quiet accusations of regional political favouritism.
Budget update: Newfoundland and Labrador projects $154-million deficit
There are four oil installations in the province’s offshore, and production this year has been lower than expected, largely because of delays in restarting production in the Terra Nova oilfield, Coady said.
Brian Zinchuk: To save the world, the Liberals got what they wanted, but now they don’t want what they got
This was the plan all along – from the federal Liberal government, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Make everything more expensive, until people change their patterns of behaviour, preferably to a pattern that reduces greenhouse gas emissions. And in so doing, we save the planet from the certain doom known as “anthropogenic (manmade) climate change.”
Saskatchewan MLAs unified in opposition to unfair application of federal carbon tax
REGINA – Members from all parties in the Saskatchewan Legislature unanimously approved a motion, brought forward by the NDP, to “scrap the carbon tax on everything for everyone. ” And if the federal government refuses to scrap the carbon tax, that all forms of home heating across Canada be exempt from the carbon tax” the motion said the Government of Saskatchewan will to not collect and remit the carbon tax on bills beginning January 1st, 2024.

Scott Moe: If Atlantic Canada won’t pay the carbon tax on heating, neither will Saskatchewan
What’s good for the Atlantic goose is good for the Saskatchewan gander, when it comes to carbon tax for home heating. And if they’re not paying the carbon tax, neither will we.
That’s the strategy Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe is taking when it comes to application of the federal carbon tax. If they’re not going to pay it, neither will we. As of Jan. 1, SaskEnergy, Saskatchewan’s Crown-owned natural gas utility, will cease collecting federal carbon tax.

Jim Warren: Politicians in several developed countries have read the polls and are backing away from overly ambitious emissions reduction plans
It is easy to imagine a lot of really big decisions are made over cappuccinos and lattes by the ardently virtuous members of Steven Guilbeault’s coffee klatch in Gatineau, says Jim Warren.
Weekend Watch: Unreliable power a leading factor in South Africa’s demise
If you haven’t been paying attention, South Africa is falling apart. The reasons are many and various. But a principal factor is an increasingly unreliable power grid leading to up to a third of the grid being in the dark at any one time.

Trudeau just blinked on his premier climate change initiative, the carbon tax
Late in the afternoon of Oct. 26, the staunch federal Liberal policy of climate change priorities conquers all just cracked.
With Atlantic Canada, once a solid Liberal base, up in arms over the federal carbon tax on fuel oil used for home heating, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau blinked.
Quick Dick McDick: Trudeau’s carbon tax exemption
Quick Dick McDick was chomping on sausage and eggs after processing calves when he heard Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was pausing the federal carbon tax – but only in Atlantic Canada, and only on home heating fuel oil.
Quick Dick calls “bullshit!” on a whole bunch of points.

Saskatchewan Party government intends to use Saskatchewan First Act to fight the feds on several climate change initiatives
A year ago, the Saskatchewan Party government introduced the Saskatchewan First Act, which was subsequently passed into law. Now, it has made clear its intentions to use that act to take the fight to Ottawa on several climate change-related initiatives, including the Cleaner Electricity Regulations, Clean Fuel Standard, and proposed oil and gas emissions cap.
Other energy-related points in Wednesday’s Speech from the Throne
When it comes to the energy sector, the Saskatchewan Party government’s principal thrust is the usage of the Saskatchewan First Act to fight the federal government on several climate change initiatives. But there were other energy-related points in the Oct. 25 Speech from the Throne. Here are all the other references to energy in the Oct. 25 Speech from the Throne, as read by Lt.-Governor Russ Mirasty.

Peter Zeihan: The First, Second and Third Shale Revolutions
In the past week geopolitical strategist Peter Zeihan released a series of three videos on YouTube explaining how the shale revolution has impacted, well, everything, in the U.S. By extension, this applies to Canada as well. While the Bakken shale revolution in Saskatchewan has largely petered out, as there’s not nearly as fracking going on these days, it is absolutely game-changing in the Montney play of BC and Alberta. There the continued shale revolution is leading to the emergence of liquified natural gas (LNG) exports, including the Coastal GasLink pipeline, LNG Canada, and several more LNG terminals starting to gain traction, finally.
Can solar power essentially flatline for a whole day? It did in Alberta on Monday
The Travers Solar Project in Vulcan County was touted by Alberta Energy Minister Brian Jean on Friday, Oct. 20 as the largest in Canada. It has a nameplate capacity of 465 megawatts, and frequently hits that number on sunny days. But that solar facility maxed out at 51 megawatts at 1:16 p.m., according to Dispatcho.app, which logs data from the Alberta Electric System Operator. That’s 10.9 per cent of its capacity. And most of the day, its output was much lower than that.
