In the past week geopolitical strategist Peter Zeihan released a series of three videos on YouTube explaining how the shale revolution has impacted, well, everything, in the U.S. By extension, this applies to Canada as well. While the Bakken shale revolution in Saskatchewan has largely petered out, as there’s not nearly as fracking going on these days, it is absolutely game-changing in the Montney play of BC and Alberta. There the continued shale revolution is leading to the emergence of liquified natural gas (LNG) exports, including the Coastal GasLink pipeline, LNG Canada, and several more LNG terminals starting to gain traction, finally.
As an editor’s note, I follow Peter Zeihan’s daily newsletter and video posts through https://zeihan.com/, and have consumed nearly ever piece of video or audiobook he has produced in recent years. This is the man who, eight years before Russia fully invaded Ukraine, said the current war was going to happen within eight years. If you watch his older videos, you will find his accuracy in predictions is probably around 80 per cent, although he does have a tendency to predict famines that don’t subsequently occur. His insights draw a lot on demography and geography, and offer underlying reasons for what is going on in our world today. His daily videos are now routinely getting 250,000 views within a day, and for good reason. Check them out.
