Poilievre speaks of the consequences of the relentless ideological drive to attack the energy sector

WEYBURN – Pierre Poilievre is the leading candidate for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada. He made the effort to attend and speak at the Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Show in Weyburn on June 1. That was a key day, because the next day, party membership sales closed.
Poilievre had laid the groundwork three years ago, attending and briefly speaking at the same oil show in 2019.
He had a lot to say about energy. You can watch the speech on YouTube, below, or you can read his entire speech, verbatim, further below.

Biden vows to battle inflation as prices keep climbing

LOS ANGELES (AP) — In President Joe Biden’s estimation, the U.S. is in a strong position to overcome the worst inflation in more than 40 years. But so far, inflation just keeps getting the better of the U.S. economy and of the Biden administration.
The president’s policies, his deals with the private sector, regulatory actions and public jawboning have failed so far to stop prices from marching upward.
Biden on Friday pledged to keep fighting against inflation while touring the Port of Los Angeles, America’s busiest port and a place that the White House said last October would be key for reducing price pressures.

Crown land sale back to usual range after a big jump two months ago

REGINA – After a big jump in the previous Crown land sale, the June sale fell back to a more sedate pace, typical of the last several years.

The June 7 public offering of Crown petroleum and natural gas rights raised $2,934,410 for the province, representing an increase of $2.4 million compared to the June 2021 offering.

Jim Warren: COVID-19 and climate change. How much will people take?

Perhaps there is something about the rarefied air of the Laurentians that convinces our policy making elite that their mantle of virtue and belief in our impending doom places them beyond the mortal bounds of common sense and the realities of social and economic life for most of us. Claims about following the science that are assumed to add a cachet of rationality and “truth” to their positions won’t be sufficient to avoid dissent and conflict.

Steve Halabura: Potash 101

Steve Halabura: Potash 101

Putin’s invasion of the Ukraine has brought down sanctions against the Russian financial system, Russian oligarchs, and Russian resource exporters.  You can also lump Putin’s henchman Lukashenko into this mix. When you do this, you taint 40% of the world’s trade in potash.
Who’s left to carry the load?  Saskatchewan. Given how important potash has become, maybe it’s time to go back and relearn a bit about this stuff called potash.  Time for POTASH 101 boys and girls!

EPA raises amount of ethanol that must be blended with gas

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Biden administration on Friday set new requirements that increase the amount of ethanol that must be blended into the nation’s gasoline supply but reduce previous ethanol-blending requirements due to a plunge in fuel demand during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Environmental Protection Agency said it would set the 2022 levels for corn-based ethanol blended into gasoline at 15 billion gallons. But even as the new rules increased future ethanol requirements, the EPA retroactively reduced levels for 2020 by 2.5 billion gallons and by 1.2 billion gallons for 2021, reflecting the lower amount of ethanol produced and decreased sales of gasoline during a period when the virus led to a drop in driving.

Pledge of more oil heightens odds of Saudi trip for Biden

Pledge of more oil heightens odds of Saudi trip for Biden

The Biden administration praised Saudi Arabia Thursday for its roles securing an OPEC+ pledge to pump more oil and a cease-fire extension in Yemen — warm words that appeared to boost the prospect of President Joe Biden traveling to Saudi Arabia and meeting with the kingdom’s once-shunned crown prince. Biden intends to make his first trip as president to the Saudi kingdom later this month, though details have not been finalized, a person familiar with the planning told The Associated Press.

15 people charged with criminal contempt over pipeline protest, 10 others await fate

The British Columbia Prosecution Service says 15 people are being charged with criminal contempt of court following protests last fall over a natural gas pipeline being built near Houston in northern B.C.

The prosecution service says it will take four more weeks to decide if there’s enough evidence to charge an additional 10 people, while two others who were arrested won’t be prosecuted.

Court documents say all 27 people were arrested over six days between September and November along a forest service road leading to a work site for the Coastal GasLink pipeline.
