‘Over the top hypocrisy’ of F1 oilsands protest helps Alberta’s case, Kenney argues
The “over-the-top hypocrisy” outspoken Formula One driver Sebastian Vettel displayed on his T-shirt and helmet last weekend in Montreal is just the sort of thing Premier Jason Kenney says he needs to disprove and discredit the critics of Alberta’s oilsands.
Kenney visibly relished the chance Thursday to denounce Vettel as a hypocrite after the German driver showed up at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the F1 Canadian Grand Prix in a T-shirt that described the oilsands as “Canada’s Climate Crime.”
Imperial Oil signs deal with E3 Lithium to advance pilot project
Imperial Oil Ltd. has signed a deal to help advance a lithium project in Alberta’s historic Leduc oilfield.
The agreement will see Imperial invest $6.35 million in E3 Lithium, a Calgary-based junior resource company that has developed a technology to extract the naturally occurring lithium (a light metal that is a key component in the batteries used in electric vehicles) from oilfield brines.

Biden, Chevron chief trade sharp words over gas prices
In a pointed back and forth, the head of Chevron complained Tuesday that President Joe Biden has vilified energy firms at a time when gasoline prices are at near record levels and the president responded that the oil company CEO was being “mildly sensitive.”
The president in recent weeks has criticized oil producers and refiners for maximizing profits and making “more money than God,” rather than increasing production in response to higher prices as the economy recovers from the pandemic and feels the effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Brian Crossman: Now hiring!
Hey everybody! It’s time to start jumping up and down like idiots! The patch is busy and everyone is hiring! Outstanding! Let’s go make the big money on “The Rigs!” (That’s how I remember hearing it nearly four decades ago) It is true; there is “big money” to be made in the energy industry. But guess what? If you are able-bodied, you can make good money in pretty much any industry. You may have to move to a different part of the province or the country, but there is high-paying work available. And if you have a pulse and the ability to string a few words together, you’ll get an interview. If you show up, hell, you’ll probably get the job. But maybe you should be proactive and prepare yourself just a little bit.

How much for gas? Around the world, pain is felt at the pump
There’s a global oil price — around $110 a barrel — but no global pump price due to taxes and other factors. In Hong Kong and Norway, you can pay more than $10 per gallon. In Germany, it can be around $7.50 per gallon, and in France, about $8. While lower fuel taxes mean the U.S. average for a gallon of gas is somewhat cheaper at $5, it’s still the first time the price has been that high.

Germany to limit use of gas for electricity production
BERLIN (AP) — Germany’s economy minister said Sunday that the country will limit the use of natural gas for electricity production amid concerns about possible shortages caused by a cut in supplies from Russia.
Experts torn over when ‘demand destruction’ could trigger gasoline price relief
There’s a famous saying that ‘the cure for high prices is high prices,’ but when it comes to gasoline, that may not necessarily be the case.
Experts are torn on when or even if drivers might see significant “demand destruction” — an economics term for a sustained decline in demand for a product due to excessively high prices — at the pumps.

Moe and minsters meet with energy industry participants, discuss ESG, increasing oil production

June 16 was such a day, with four different groups meeting with Premier Scott Moe and a number of provincial ministers in Saskatoon to discuss their concerns. Energy representatives were among them.

Biden tells oil refiners: Produce more gas, fewer profits
President Joe Biden on Wednesday called on U.S. oil refiners to produce more gasoline and diesel, saying their profits have tripled during a time of war between Russia and Ukraine as Americans struggle with record high prices at the pump.
“The crunch that families are facing deserves immediate action,” Biden wrote in a letter to seven oil refiners. “Your companies need to work with my Administration to bring forward concrete, near-term solutions that address the crisis.”

Whitecap Resources’ big CO2 plans, according to Grant Fagerheim, Saskatchewan Oil Person of the Year
On June 1, Whitecap Resources CEO Grant Fagerheim was honoured as Saskatchewan’s Oil Person of the Year. A lot of that had to do with how he is leading his company in major developments in carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage, particularly at the Weyburn Unit.
And the scope of these initiatives keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Facebook rejects boosted post of a Pipeline Online news story regarding Pierre Poilievre
I wrote a story which was the entire verbatim speech Pierre Poilievre delivered to the Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Show. Facebook would not allow me to run an ad promoting that story. And if you don’t pay Facebook (Meta) to push your content out, it will hardly show it to anyone. When Poilievre speaks of “gatekeepers,” this is precisely what he is referring to. It is very real.
