Irving Oil reviewing strategic options including sale
Irving Oil said Wednesday that a strategic review of the company is underway and that it is looking at a series of options about its future, including a possible sale of the business.

Heavy rains in the Coronach area Friday night have resulted in the shutdown of the coal-fired Poplar River Power Station, just when high temperatures are putting pressure on SaskPower’s grid to keep everyone’s air conditioning running. The result is a 582 megawatt coal-fired power station went offline, and SaskPower is scrambling to meet demand. One of the things it is doing is internal “load shedding,” reducing power consumption where it can, so that other customers have the power they need.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Saudi Arabia will reduce how much oil it sends to the global economy, taking a unilateral step to prop up the sagging price of crude after two previous cuts to supply by major producing countries in the OPEC+ alliance failed to push oil higher.
The Saudi cut of 1 million barrels per day, to start in July, comes as the other OPEC+ producers agreed in a meeting in Vienna to extend earlier production cuts through next year.

Suncor to cut 1,500 jobs by end of year, employees informed Thursday
Suncor Energy Inc. will cut 1,500 jobs by the end of the year, as new CEO Rich Kruger forges ahead with his mandate to reduce costs and improve the company’s lagging financial performance.
Employees were given the news Thursday afternoon, in a companywide email from Kruger, Suncor spokeswoman Sneh Seetal said.

Equinor postponing Bay du Nord oil project off Newfoundland for up to three years
The premier of Newfoundland and Labrador played it cool Wednesday as Norwegian energy giant Equinor announced it was suspending plans to develop a $16-billion oil project in the province’s offshore.
Andrew Furey said the news that Equinor would postpone the Bay du Nord project for up to three years came as a surprise. But he said he remains confident the oilfield would still be developed.

Government amending Atlantic Accords to include offshore wind energy, spur production
Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson says new legislation will let Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador tap into the potential of offshore wind power development.
He has introduced changes to the laws implementing the Atlantic Accords that would expand the mandates of each province’s offshore petroleum boards to include renewable energy.
