CAPP reacts to Biden pushing pause on new LNG export terminal approvals

CALGARY – The Joe Biden administration has just hit pause on approvals of new liquefied natural gas export terminals. And it turns out, that has an impact on Canadian production. Lisa Baiton, Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers president & CEO issued the following statement on Jan. 26:

“North American LNG is in high demand around the world because it is a lower emission source of secure energy that is helping countries get off coal while ensuring a secure supply of energy for their citizens. The rapid emergence of the LNG industry in the United States has been an incredible success story, playing a crucial role in protecting the energy security of countries in Europe and Asia who are reducing their reliance on Russian natural gas for their critical energy supplies. LNG facilities on the U.S. Gulf Coast are also offering Canadian producers an opportunity to export their natural gas globally. Given the highly integrated nature of the North American energy market, CAPP is disappointed in the White House decision to pause license approvals for LNG to non-FTA countries.”
