Drilling rig activity is pretty sedate in Saskatchewan, with just 11 rigs working

May is just about over, spring breakup is long past, but drilling activity is pretty sedate in Saskatchewan.

As of Monday, May 29, RiggerTalk.com, which publishes data from the Canadian Association of Energy Contractors, showed just 11 rigs working across Saskatchewan.

There were only three rigs in southeast Saskatchewan. Cardinal Energy Ltd. was punching a hole north of Midale in the Midale Unit. Tundra Oil & Gas was drilling south of Roche Percee, just outside of the coal mines. Taprock had one rig going north of Alameda.

There were zero rigs working in southwest Saskatchewan.

Shifting to west central Saskatchewan, six rigs were making hole. Whitecap Resources Inc. had one right southeast of Elrose. Teine Energy had three rigs – one just north of Kindersley, a second north of Beadle, which is east of Kindersley, and a third north of Eston. Novus Energy Inc. had one rig north of Marengo.

Strathcona Resources had one rig working south of Macklin at Cactus Lake. It also had the solitary rig working in northwest Saskatchewan, at Meota.

Potash rigs usually don’t show up on these lists, but one was working along Highway 16, east of Saskatoon at Elstow. The license shows an old name “Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan,” and obviously does not reflect its new name of Nutrien.
