Solar produces zero power 20 nights in a row

This comment was made on LinkedIn on July 26 with respect to a story on zero wind power output in Alberta:

“Brian how about how much power has the solar panels generated the last 20 days? It’s easy to pick the zero numbers when its cloudy or the wind doesn’t blow but its be sunny. what are the solar panel numbers please.”

A request by Pipeline Online to SaskPower on July 27 resulted in this response from SaskPower by email the same day:

“I can confirm solar power cannot be generated at night.”

Pipeline Online can definitively report that zero solar power was produced in Saskatchewan during the nighttime hours for the last 20 days in a row.

That’s usually when the sun is illuminating New Zealand, Australia, then India and Europe.
