WEYBURN – The Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Show in Weyburn is just a day away.
If you’re an exhibitor, you’re likely setting up your booth, taking part in the exhibitors’ golf tournament, or getting ready to chow down on the steak or lobster meal tonight.
For the public, Wednesday, June 1, is the big day in many ways. The show opens, and most of the major events take place. The show opens at 10 a.m. There is a $10 per day entry fee per day, something new this year.
The awards luncheon is at noon, and will feature Premier Scott Moe, Conservative leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre, and presentation of the Saskatchewan Petroleum Industry Hall of Fame and Southeast Saskatchewan Legends awards. Rafi Tahmazian will be speaking at 2 p.m.
That all takes place in the curling rink.
The show closes at 5:30 p.m. and the curling rink is again the place of action, with the now-sold-out prime rib dinner and awards ceremony. The Saskatchewan Oilperson of the Year as well as the Southeast Saskatchewan Oilperson of the Year will both be honoured.
And once the awards are over Quick Dick McDick will take the stage to fill out the evening.
On June 2, the show opens a 9 a.m., with an industry luncheon at noon. At 12:30, Rex Murphy takes the stage. Grounds close at 3 p.m.
One of the highlights this year will be the presence of a drilling rig on site, something that hasn’t happened in several years. It’s a chance to see the biggest iron up close and in person, as Weyburn-based Panther Drilling’s Rig 4 is among the largest in Saskatchewan.
