Saskatchewan’s drilling rig activity on Aug. 18 saw a substantial uptick in northwest Saskatchewan, according to data from the Canadian Association of Energy Contractors (CAOEC), as published by RiggerTalk.com. On that day, there were 40 rigs working in Saskatchewan.
Northwest Saskatchewan had 10 rigs going, the most in several years.
International Petroleum Corp had Ensign Drilling Rig 650 working at Onion Lake.
Cenovus had its highest number of rigs working in the region since it acquired Husky last year. At Spruce Lake, Cenovus had Precision Drilling Rigs 254 and 146. Notably, it had three rigs working in close proximity to the Rush Lake thermal plant, employing PD rigs 191, 197 and 198 within a on-mile circle. This is a noticeable improvement from earlier in 2022, when Cenovus, the largest oil producer in the province, had only one rig working.
Gear Energy had Savanna Drilling Rig 414 working east of Maidstone.
Baytex Energy had Precision Drilling Rig 155 working just west of Maidstone, along Highway 16. West Lake Energy Corp. employed PD Rig 148 southwest of Lashburn. Rife Resources Ltd. was working northwest of Marshall with PD 204.

In west central Saskatchewan, the rigs are spread out. Teine Energy had Ensign Rig 849 northeast of Alsask, Ensign Rig 356 west of Kerrobert, Ensign 351 at Stranraer and Ensign 537 at Plato.
Baytex had Savanna Rig 425 at Coleville, and Savanna Rig 441 southeast of Elrose.
Saturn Oil & Gas had Savanna Rig 431 east of Plato.
Ish Energy Ltd. had Lasso Drilling Corp Rig 6 south of Major.
Whitecap Resources Inc. had Bonanza Drilling Rig 2 east of Dodsland.
Novus had Bonanza Rig 1 at Flaxcombe.
Moving down to southwest Saskatchewan, Whitecap had Bonanza Rig 3 working south of Gull Lake.
Crescent Point had Savanna Rig 419 along Highway 13 halfway between Shaunavon and Eastend. Their second rig in the area, was Savanna Rig 416 southwest of Shaunavon. A mile from it, North American Helium had Savanna Rig 629 drilling.

Continuing with Crescent Point into southeast Saskatchewan, they had Ensign Rig 421 within spitting distance of the U.S. border south of Beaubier. Seriously, if the derrickhand took a whiz of the monkeyboard in a strong wind, he could hit a Yankee gopher.
Their next rig was Stampede Drilling Ltd. Rig 7, between Viewfield and Midale. They had PD Rig 195 east of Corning.
Panther Drilling Rig 4 was working for Vital Energy Inc southwest of Griffin.
Alliance Drilling Rig 2 was working within a rock’s throw of Benson, along Highway 47, working for Midale Petroleums.
Lampman continues to see regular drilling activity. Four miles north, Whitecap had Stampede Rig 17 drilling. Three miles east, they had Ensign Rig 423 making hole. And three miles south, Surge Energy Inc. had Stampede Rig 2 going.
Triland had Stampede Rig 1 working northwest of Wilmar. Tundra Oil & Gas had Stampede Rig 4 working northeast of Steelman.
Vermilion Energy had Savanna Rig 436 working north of Arcola.
East of Manor, Betts Rig 3 was drilling for Saturn.
The Oxbow and Glen Ewan areas had more rigs working there than has been the case for some time, with four units making hole. Villanova had Betts Rig 4 working southeast of Oxbow, while just south of Glen Ewan, while Stampede Rig 3 was working for Anova Resources.
Panther Rig 3 was working for Vermillion northeast of Northgate, and Betts Rig 2 was south of Carnduff, near the border.
