On June 16, Premier Scott Moe signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Poland to advance collaboration in nuclear energy development, including nuclear workforce development, research and innovation and supply chain opportunities.
Saskatchewan has chosen the GE Vernova-Hitachi BRX-300 small modular reactor for its first two reactors, should this province actually build SMRs. Poland is planning on building them by the literal dozen, with about 24 planned. Saskatchewan is also considering large nuclear reactors like the Westinghouse AP1000. Poland also has plans to build several of those reactors, too. And all of those Polish reactors, which will eventually vastly outnumber Canada’s reactor fleet, will need fuel, like Saskatchewan uranium.
“Saskatchewan is proud to partner with the government of Poland as we work together to strengthen energy security, support innovation and build the skilled workforce needed for the future,” Moe said. “This agreement reflects our shared commitment to meaningful collaboration in nuclear development, research, training and supply chain opportunities that will benefit both our economies for years to come.”
As Saskatchewan continues to advance opportunities in nuclear development, including small modular reactors and large-scale nuclear generation, the province remains focused on building the workforce, expertise and supply chains needed to support long-term energy security and economic growth.

The agreement recognizes the importance of collaboration related to nuclear energy development, while creating opportunities for future exchanges and partnerships between Saskatchewan and Poland.
“This is part of a broad effort to protect the environment and combat climate change and demonstrates the continued commitment of both regions to the energy transformation,” Marshal of the Mazovian Voivodeship in Poland Adam Struzik said. “The goal is to develop human resources and market cooperation, including the creation of platforms for joint educational, scientific and professional collaboration, supporting research and innovation, and building an energy secure environment, with particular emphasis on nuclear energy. Here we agree that it is crucial to respond to the growing energy needs of regions and cities by strengthening research potential and developing the infrastructure of small modular reactors in Poland and Canada.”

Saskatchewan and Poland continue to build on its strong trade relationship. Over the past five years, the value of Saskatchewan exports to the country increased by 3,500 per cent from $2.2 million in 2021 to $79 million in 2025.
“We are pleased to see this agreement signed between Saskatchewan and Mazovian Voivodeship as both jurisdictions explore introducing clean, reliable nuclear energy,” Cameco CEO Tim Gitzel said. “At Cameco, we demonstrate that nuclear is a global business that best serves people and communities through collaboration, knowledge sharing, trade relationships and supply chain opportunities. As a leading provider of uranium fuel and reactor technologies, we look forward to the opportunity to help support both jurisdictions as they pursue civil nuclear reactor programs.”

Sustainable, clean energy begins in Saskatchewan. With the largest high-quality deposits of uranium in the world, the province is poised to fuel nuclear power and provide global energy security for decades.
The MOU signing was part of the province’s ongoing trade and investment mission to the European Union. The delegation will return June 19, 2026. The mission, including June 16’s MOU signing, was supported by Saskatchewan’s Germany office.
