Saskatchewan’s official opposition New Democratic Party has been speaking up for the Steelworkers frequently in recent weeks. On Thursday, March 12, Aleana Young, Saskatchewan NDP Jobs & Economy Shadow Minister, and Sally Housser, Saskatchewan NDP Energy & Resources Shadow Minister joined Mike Day, United Steelworkers Local 5890 on the steps of the Legislature to voice their concerns.
Sask Party on steel tariffs: Ports, pipes and rail
In a press conference March 13, Premier Scott Moe spoke about how the canola industry was being hit by tariffs from China that arose from Canada imposing tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, in support of American tariffs on the same initiated by President Joe Biden. He also spoke of the steel tariffs, and some of his later comments closely mirrored what the NDP has been saying, with regards to building pipelines and rail.
