Strathcona’s takeover bid for MEG not expected to affect Saskatchewan thermal expansion plans
o the big question is – will Strathcona continue its planned expansion in Saskatchewan, or will its growth be through buying barrels of production through the acquisition of MEG instead?
Reaching for a Million, Part 4: Brian Zinchuk: A five point plan for Saskatchewan to hit a million barrels per day
During the October, 2024, provincial election campaign Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe said he’d like to eventually see Saskatchewan reach one million barrels of oil production per day. That dramatically exceeds his own government’s stated goal of 600,000 barrels per day by 2030. Doing so would more than double the province’s current ~450,000 bpd average production.
How can that be done?
Beck writes federal ministers to repeal Bill C-69 and revise the Clean Electricity Regulations
As the sitting resumes in the House of Commons, Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck sent five letters to a total of nine ministers in Carney’s cabinet calling for action on Saskatchewan issues that have too often been ignored by federal governments of all stripes.

Carney’s mandate letter to ministers is dramatically different than Trudeau’s, with climate change an afterthought
Prime Minister Carney went about it a little differently. On May 21 he publicly issued one, singular mandate letter to his entire cabinet. Notably, climate change is mentioned almost as an afterthought, and not included in the list of seven priorities.
Brian Crossman: So, we had an election. Now what?
To watch Trudeau, step down (removed?) and then run away from the Trump regime was frustrating. Then we watched as a globalist multi-millionaire was anointed as the leader of the Liberal party, and then somehow used fear to win an election, which robbed Canadians of the opportunity for positive change.

What a month of Alberta’s electrical mix shows: enormous variability backed up by natural gas
Pay special attention to the gas readings, and how close they get to the black bar showing total generation at that time. The federal Clean Electricity Regulations mean to do away with all of that gas generation, unless it has carbon capture with standards that are currently unreachable, will be done away with in 24 years, seven months and 18 days.

Reaching for a million (or 600,000?), Part 3: Low Productivity and Reactivation Oil Well Program announced
What if you could breathe new life into an old, depleted well? What if you could make use of existing infrastructure like pumping equipment, tubing, flowlines and batteries, as well as the vertical wellbore, itself? That’s exactly what the new incentive offered by the Province of Saskatchewan tries to do, by incentivizing the reinvigoration of old wells by drilling new, additional horizontal legs.
Moe issues Saskatchewan’s demands, a week after Smith announces Alberta’s
This week, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe issued his own public letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney, albeit with a much less threatening tone and without the implied threat of Saskatchewan separation.
Jim Warren: The Canadian Deep Green State
There are thousands of federal bureaucrats who’ve spent up to a decade thinking about ways to block pipelines and stifle expansion of Canada’s conventional energy sector. They are probably not all climate alarmists and emissions cutting fanatics, but it’s a safe bet lots are.
The shark gets swallowed: Whitecap closes Veren (formerly Crescent Point) strategic combination
The company that pretty much defined Saskatchewan’s Bakken Boom, gobbling up over 30 companies (most of them in southeast Saskatchewan) is no more.
