If your company wants in on Saskatchewan’s coming nuclear power development, be in Regina on Wednesday
SIMSA has been tasked by the provincial government to develop a nuclear supply chain within Saskatchewan, especially since current estimates are up to $4-$5 billion per reactor, although they could be potentially less. SaskPower estimates peak workforce will be 1750 people during construction, per unit. Thus, there will be opportunities to be had, to the tune of several billion dollars, in what will likely be the priciest infrastructure project in this province to date.
Energy Transition Podcast, Episode 83: Macron going full Trudeau
This week’s Energy Transition Podcast has Armando Cavanha, David Blackmon , Tammy Nemeth and Irina Slav talking about how governments in Canada and France are blaming everyone but themselves and their own energy policies for inflation. Bonus points for the usage of the term “frogmarch.”

Quick Dick McDick: We Can’t Fix Our Government, But We CAN Fix Our Fence
It sounds like Quick Dick McDick is a little jealous of YouTube channel Laura Farms, probably because he’s not nearly at cute showing everyday farming things. But since he didn’t have time to whip up something slagging Trudeau, so here we are.

Clean electricity regs can be tweaked, but no special deal for Alberta: Guilbeault
There will be no special treatment for Alberta when it comes to Canada’s incoming regulations to make electricity cleaner, Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault said Friday.
Environmental groups increasingly using competition law to fight fossil fuel sector
Splashed across billboards and city buses, on newspaper spreads and Facebook feeds, the “Let’s Clear the Air” ad campaign by the Pathways Alliance group of oilsands companies is a multi-million-dollar public relations blitz by an industry keen to show it’s committed to helping fight climate change.
Brian Zinchuk: Some suggestions for the Saskatchewan government to stimulate activity in the province’s oilpatch
As I noted on Sept. 28, there’s a substantial amount of concern in the oilpatch about the lack of activity despite high oil prices. As one person told me, “When oil was $40 a couple years ago I was optimistic that a price recovery would lead to increased activity in our region. Now that we’re struggling to keep a double digit rig count in SE Sask with $94 oil ($127 CAD) it’s tough to stay optimistic.”
Sovereignty act may be used to fight 2035 net-zero electricity plan: Alberta premier
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says she would use her province’s sovereignty act as a last resort to challenge any attempt by the federal government to impose a net-zero electricity grid by 2035.
Smith says achieving net-zero 12 years from now is not realistic, adding that it could lead to power blackouts because Alberta wouldn’t have a reliable source of baseload power such as natural gas.
Brian Zinchuk: With oil prices now at US$94 per barrel, why is industry activity akin to when it was half that?
In the last week I’ve spoke to some of the most knowledgeable people I know in the Saskatchewan oilpatch, business owners all, from Weyburn, Lloydminster and several from Estevan. There’s a rising chorus of dissatisfaction amongst them. Things should be booming in this province’s oilpatch, but they aren’t. And this disquiet could threaten the governing Saskatchewan Party with the potential loss of a key portion of its base.

Part 2: Converting the carbon capture plant from coal to natural gas could reduce emissions, but lead to the end of coal at Estevan
Converting Boundary Dam and Shand Power Stations to natural gas could dramatically reduce CO2 emissions, especially if you factor in the existing carbon capture plant. But it would lead to the end of coal mining at Estevan.
No new oil, coal projects needed as fossil fuel demand to peak this decade: IEA
Even if no new government climate policies are introduced before 2030, global demand for fossil fuels will still peak before the end of the decade, a new report by the International Energy Agency states.
How many nuclear reactors is Saskatchewan going to build?
Just how many nuclear reactors is SaskPower planning for?

Governors, Biden administration push to quadruple efficient heating, AC units by 2030
A group of 25 state governors that make up the U.S. Climate Alliance and the Biden administration announced a pledge Thursday to quadruple the number of heat pumps in U.S. homes by 2030, from 4.7 million to 20 million.
Heat pumps use little electricity, yet are able to heat and cool buildings. Since they often replace oil or gas furnaces that add greenhouse gases to the air, they can meaningfully address climate change.
Video: Nuclear power and small modular reactors: a primer
The Southeast Techhub in Estevan hosted Al Shpyth on Sept. 22 to speak about nuclear power development – a key issue since Estevan is considered one of two possible sites for the province’s first nuclear power reactors.

Jim Warren: Guess what happens when eco-zealots are put in charge of making climate policy?
Over the past decade we’ve learned that failure and misfortune often follow when people who bleed green are allowed formulate emissions reduction policies. Experience has shown green transition targets set by inept policy makers like Steven Guilbeault, Canada’s greener than goose poop environment minister, generally turn out to be hopelessly unrealistic.

Beating 75 percent target for cutting oil and gas methane emissions is Canada’s next challenge: Minister Guilbeault, verbatim
Editor’s note: Again, sometimes its best to just hear it from the horse’s mouth. This is the Sept. 20 press release from Minister of Environment and Climate Change Steven Guilbeault, sent “Canada’s Ambassador for Climate Change” to the United Nations in New York to tell the world how we’re going to cut oil and gas methane emissions. (Does Climate Change have embassies?)
