Danielle Smith and Alberta react to Supreme Court Bill C-69 decision, verbatim
“I hope that Ottawa will learn from this mistake. Now today, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Stephen Guilbeault, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Jonathan Wilkinson, responded to this historic decision upholding the rights of provinces to develop their resources. They tried to position this as a win. It is not. They confirm their plans to bring legislation back to Parliament to amend it. Clearly, they simply aren’t listening.” – Danielle Smith
Royal Helium successfully completes facility commissioning and announces the start-up of the Steveville helium purification facility
It was a transformative day for Royal, which drilled its first helium exploration well in southwest Saskatchewan in January, 2021. Oct. 12 was the day Royal Helium went from being a helium explorer to a helium producer. And after years of spending money in hopes an eventual return and two years, 10 months since it drilled its first well, that revenue will soon start to flow. It already has offtake agreements in place such that half of its helium production is already spoken for, and it will be used to send rockets into space.

North Dakota lawmakers must take ‘painful way’ as they try to fix budget wiped out by court
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota lawmakers were already scrambling to fill a giant hole in state government operations left by a surprising state Supreme Court ruling that voided a major budget bill, and their job got even tougher this week when the court issued a new ruling rejecting a request to give officials more time to deal with the budget mess.
Reaction to Supreme Court ruling “No More Pipelines” Bill C-69 largely unconstitutional
The reaction was fast and furious to the Supreme Court of Canada ruling much of the Impact Assessments Act, previously known as Bill C-69, and more derisively as the “No More Pipelines Act,” is unconstitutional. It’s a ruling that’s nothing less than shocking from a Supreme Court that has almost entirely adopted a left-wing agenda.

The Supreme Court rules the federal impact assessment scheme is largely unconstitutional: ruling
Editor’s note: Cases in Brief such as this are prepared by communications staff of the Supreme Court of Canada to help the public better understand Court decisions. They do not form part of the Court’s reasons for judgment and are not for use in legal proceedings. This is quoted verbatim from the Supreme Court of Canada website.
BREAKING: Supreme Court majority rules against federal environmental impact law
“Even if this court were to accept Canada’s submission that the defined ‘effects within federal jurisdiction’ are within federal jurisdiction, these effects do not drive the scheme’s decision-making powers,” he wrote in the 204-page opinion released Friday.
Wagner went on to say that the effects considered in the legislation previously known as Bill C-69, which included a range of environmental and social factors as well as climate change, were “overbroad.”

Minister of Environment and Climate Change Steven Guilbeault took to X (formerly Twitter) on Oct. 12 to tell people about #ZeroWaste. Maybe circular months don’t start on the first?
Families in New Brunswick to receive a double pollution price rebate this week

RCMP dispute photojournalist’s account of arrest while covering pipeline protest
The RCMP say a photojournalist who is suing the force was not exempt from complying with a court injunction while reporting on protests over the Coastal GasLink pipeline that’s nearing completion in northern British Columbia.
In a response to a lawsuit filed by Amber Bracken and news organization The Narwhal, the Mounties say Bracken’s status as a journalist would not place her outside the scope of the injunction that prohibits interference with the pipeline.

Enbridge CEO full speech: Canada should answer the call for LNG
Canada is not a military superpower nor an economic superpower. We are an energy superpower and using that power for good when asked by our allies is more than a fair price to maintain our G7 status and reputation. In my experience, if you constantly decline invitations from your friends you soon receive no more invites. – Greg Ebel, Enbridge CEO

Enbridge CEO Greg Ebel: Delivering LNG to global markets can reduce global CO2 emissions, support energy security
This is a major global leadership opportunity for Canada.
In fact, it’s been staring us in the face for the past decade, with little to no progress, while the U.S. has seized on it.
The opportunity I’m referring to is the export of Canadian natural gas. If used to displace coal in Asia and Eastern Europe, this would have a tremendous impact on reducing global emissions—far greater than Canada achieving its own 2050 net zero commitment.

Letter to the Editor: More thoughts as to why activity levels are so low
I read your articles regularly and with interest as I have been involved in the Saskatchewan oilpatch for the last 27 years, finding oil and building and selling small private companies. I think all your points about industry activity levels and how the provincial government can help are correct and appropriate. We should encourage them as much as possible.
I would like to add a couple more thoughts as to why activity levels are so low.
Just 29 drilling rigs working in Saskatchewan on Oct. 3, and only 26 were drilling for oil
Does it look like the end of December? No. But several oil companies working in Saskatchewan have shut down their drilling programs until the end of the year, meaning three months of no drilling, before planned resumption of drilling in the new year. This, despite oil selling for US$89.33 per barrel of West Texas Intermediate.
Brian Zinchuk: Forget a northern energy corridor to Hudson Bay – just do it within Manitoba
There’s been talk of an energy corridor running from Port McMurray to Fort Nelson on Hudson Bay.
However, it all depends on Manitoba’s election on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Everyone knows about Fort McMurray, but next to no one knows about Port Nelson, on the mouth of the Nelson River. Nor should they.
Here’s a better idea – build it all within Manitoba.
