The Saskatchewan Green Party propose to both “Make Green Jobs the future of Saskatchewan’s economy by transitioning away from fossil fuels,” while financing its extensive socialist policy platform by modelling Norway which applies “a whopping 78 percent total tax” on oil and gas revenues.
Jim Warren: Could maximizing Canadian oil production and exports over the medium-term help reduce CO2 emissions for the long-term?
There is a chasm of disagreement separating climate-concerned policy makers in Ottawa and supporters of the oil and gas sector on the prairies. Each side behaves like they’re playing a zero sum game. One can support the environment or oil production but not...

Election 2024: Keep coal, increase oil production to 1 million barrels per day, refine more here: Buffalo Party
In the big picture, we know that we have coal for 300 years. It’s a very cost-effective source of energy and the jobs that it provides for small town Saskatchewan, we have to protect. And that’s why we’re the only party that’s rejected the UN 2030 agenda. We’ve passed policy that we will not adhere to any of that. And the Paris Accord, again, which is a UN design, we will not recognize the Paris accord either. The UN’s an unelected, unaccountable entity, and they should not be affecting the people of Saskatchewan’s lives or incomes.”
Election 2024: All-of-the-above energy strategy, no changes to royalties: New Democratic Party
“We have no plans to change any of the tax or royalty structures for any industries in Saskatchewan, period.”
Election 2024: Increase oil production to 600,000 bpd with eyes on a million, keep coal until nuclear is ready: Saskatchewan Party
Moe said he thinks the that the 600,000 barrels per day of oil production target “is modest.”
He said, “With a little bit of certainty provided at the federal level, I think we’ll be able to not only achieve that, but go beyond and you don’t have to go far away to the south to see states that have been able to achieve that. We would like (to be part of) the million barrel club at some point in the future.”

Lithium in SK, Part 32: EMP Metals announces results from step-out well near Stoughton
This past summer saw EMP Metals drill a step-out exploration well just southwest of Stoughton, core it and test it for lithium. And the results showed some of the higher numbers for lithium concentrations announced in Saskatchewan to date.
If that name sounds unfamiliar, it’s because previously the work was done under the name of Hub City Lithium, which was a joint venture between EMP Metals of Vancouver (75 per cent) and ROK Resources of Regina (25 per cent). On Sept. 19, the closure was announced in a deal that saw ROK swap its 25 per cent interest in Hub City for 17 per cent ownership of EMP Metals. And thus, going forward, EMP Metals will be the name used.

Supporting Critical Minerals Development in Northern Ontario
“The Government of Canada is working to seize the generational opportunity presented by critical minerals while ensuring that Indigenous Peoples and communities share in those benefits. Canada is well positioned to be a global leader and first-class producer of a wide variety of critical minerals that are essential to power the clean economy — including nickel and copper — and, in turn, create good jobs and support economic opportunities across critical mineral value chains — from mining to processing, manufacturing and recycling.”

Op-Ed: Deidra Garyk: Reflecting on the 2024 Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show: A Celebration of Community and Innovation
I had the honour of moderating the sold-out luncheon panel at the 2024 Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show (LHOS) in September, featuring Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe. I’ve been reflecting on how to best share this experience, and I settled on a summary of the panel discussion and an ode to the hardworking individuals in the oilpatch that live in communities like Lloydminster, representative of resource-based towns across the nation.

To rectify Canada’s sinking economic status, we need to fix our energy regulatory framework to be timely, predictable and simpler. Along the way, we need to include Indigenous people and their investments.
Those were the messages by Lisa Baiton, president and CEO of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, in her keynote address to the 10th annual Saskatchewan Industrial and Mining Suppliers Association (SIMSA) Energy Forum.

Election 2024: Grow oil production to 500,000 bpd, cut PST by half: Saskatchewan United Party
“Our party, myself, we do not believe in the demonization of carbon dioxide. That will be the end of Saskatchewan as we know it. That would be catastrophic for the province, that will kill agriculture, that will kill oil and gas. It will kill industrial production. And frankly, I don’t think the people of Saskatchewan want to go back to a horse and buggy.”
