Brian Zinchuk: Panama Canal drying up woes could have benefited Canadian LNG, if only we had any
If you haven’t been paying attention (and why would you?), there’s a very serious problem occurring a few thousand miles to the south of us, one that Canada could have taken tremendous advantage of, if only we had built and completed some liquified natural gas (LNG) terminals by now.

Brian Zinchuk: To save the world, the Liberals got what they wanted, but now they don’t want what they got
This was the plan all along – from the federal Liberal government, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Make everything more expensive, until people change their patterns of behaviour, preferably to a pattern that reduces greenhouse gas emissions. And in so doing, we save the planet from the certain doom known as “anthropogenic (manmade) climate change.”

Jim Warren: Politicians in several developed countries have read the polls and are backing away from overly ambitious emissions reduction plans
It is easy to imagine a lot of really big decisions are made over cappuccinos and lattes by the ardently virtuous members of Steven Guilbeault’s coffee klatch in Gatineau, says Jim Warren.

Letter to the Editor: More thoughts as to why activity levels are so low
I read your articles regularly and with interest as I have been involved in the Saskatchewan oilpatch for the last 27 years, finding oil and building and selling small private companies. I think all your points about industry activity levels and how the provincial government can help are correct and appropriate. We should encourage them as much as possible.
I would like to add a couple more thoughts as to why activity levels are so low.

Brian Zinchuk: Forget a northern energy corridor to Hudson Bay – just do it within Manitoba
There’s been talk of an energy corridor running from Port McMurray to Fort Nelson on Hudson Bay.
However, it all depends on Manitoba’s election on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Everyone knows about Fort McMurray, but next to no one knows about Port Nelson, on the mouth of the Nelson River. Nor should they.
Here’s a better idea – build it all within Manitoba.
