SaskPower to add a 46 megawatt natural gas turbine each for power stations at North Battleford and Kerrobert
Even as it announces new renewable power generation, SaskPower is building natural gas-fired power generation to back it up.
A day after announcing the opening of a new 10 megawatt solar facility at Weyburn, SaskPower announced it would be expanding its peaking stations at North Battleford and Kerrobert.
The Crown utility said in a release on July 20, “As part of its continued efforts to provide reliable, cost-effective power to customers, SaskPower will add two new natural gas turbines to its generation fleet.
Pesâkâstêw Solar Facility opens near Weyburn, first grid-scale solar facility done in cooperation with First Nations Power Authority
On June 19 SaskPower officially opened its second grid-scale solar power facility just southwest of Weyburn.
The Pesâkâstêw Solar Facility is has a nameplate capacity of 10 megawatts. SaskPower expects roughly 25 per cent of nameplate output for solar facilities like this one.

BMO Financial Group says it has struck a deal to buy Radicle Group Inc. for an undisclosed sum as it looks to expand its emission reduction advisory services.
Calgary-based Radicle is a developer of carbon offsets and helps organizations measure and reduce emissions.
