North Dakota high court backs state in oil company dispute
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s Supreme Court has reversed a lower court decision that sided with a Houston-based energy company over disputed oil and natural gas royalties, a decision that could eventually bring millions of dollars to the state’s public schools and colleges.
The case stems from a lawsuit Newfield Exploration filed against the state after the Department of Trust Lands conducted an audit in 2016 that claimed the company was underpaying royalties to the agency that manages several state trust funds, including one that benefits public schools.
Eight in hospital, some seriously injured, after Newfoundland refinery explosion
Eight people were sent to hospital Friday after an explosion at a refinery in Come By Chance, N.L., about 150 kilometres west of St. John’s, police said.
RCMP said some were seriously injured in the blast and had to be airlifted to St. John’s, though Cpl. Jolene Garland could not confirm how many.

Imperial, Exxon completes $1.9B sale of XTO Energy Canada to Whitecap Resources
Imperial Oil Ltd. says it and ExxonMobil Canada have closed the $1.9-billion sale of their oil and gas-producing assets in the Montney and Duvernay areas to Whitecap Resources Inc.
The two companies each owned 50 per cent of XTO Energy Canada, which held the assets, while Imperial itself is majority owned by ExxonMobil.
