South Dakota’s governor signed a bill into law Thursday that bans the taking of private property for building carbon dioxide pipelines, a blow to a sprawling Midwest pipeline network that ethanol producers see as key for their future.

South Bow Corp., the oil pipeline operator spun off from TC Energy Corp. last year, says its marketing segment, which provides transportation, storage and logistics services, could come under pressure if a 10 per cent tariff on U.S. energy exports persists. 

The Big Three automakers were able to secure a month-long tariff exemption on Wednesday after a conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump — but Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wrapped a call to the Oval Office with no such guarantees for Canada.
