Alliance Drilling Rig 3 working for Hummingbird Oil on Oct. 17, south of Lampman. The Lampman area is one of the most active drilling areas in Saskatchewan. Either this well, or one in very close proximity, came in 7th place for top producing conventional wells in Saskatchewan. Hummingbird has been punching holes in that area for quite a while now, obviously with a measure of success. Photo by Brian Zinchuk

BlincSoftware put together this graphic from data provided by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources. Much more detailed information can be found at BlincSoftware’s Canadian Petroleum Registry.

That list shows that two of the top 10 conventional wells were drilled just a few hundred metres apart, four miles due south of Lampman along Highway 605.

The top producing well in January was Surge Energy’s 101/16-21-004-06 W2 16-20-004-06-W2 well came in at 60.65 cubic metres, or 381.5 barrels of oil per day. And kitty-corner to that well, on the east side of the highway, Hummingbird Energy’s 110/02-29-004-06-W2 04-28-004-06-W2 produced 47.64 cubic metres, or 299.6 barrels of oil per day.

The producing conventional well in Saskatchewan is the Surge Energy well, on the west side of the highway, while the No. 7 well is Hummingbird Energy’s well on the east side. gridatlas.com

Seven companies were knocking it out of the park. Five of the wells were west of the second meridian in southeast Saskatchewan, with the remaining five west of the third, in western Saskatchewan.

And indeed, the diversity of production is evident in that the second highest producing well was Strathcona Resources Ltd’s 101/03-01-035-20-W3 11-01-35-20-W3, located 17 miles east and 4 miles north of Kerrobert, in west central Saskatchewan. It produced 56.52 cubic metres, or 355.5 barrels of oil per day. The two hotspots are 512 kilometres, or 318 miles, apart.

The pattern continues, as Anova’s 3rd place well is 4 miles north of Oxbow, while the fourth place well, belonging to Strathcona, is a second well on the same pad as the No. 2 well.
