Your Thanksgiving turkey likely wasn’t cooked by wind power in Alberta on Monday, given that at 11:00 a.m., wind power output was running at one half of one per cent nameplate capacity.
According to data from the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), wind output was 30 megawatts out of a rated capacity of 5,684 megawatts. And at 11:17 it fell to 28 megawatts.

Out of Alberta’s 50 wind farms, only 12 were producing power at that point. The remaining 38 showed goose eggs on the AESO minute-by-minute data webpage.

It turns out holidays don’t seem to be wind’s strongest days in Alberta, as Pipeline Online reported wind output also took a holiday on Labour Day.
Solar, however, was having a good day, with 1,430 megawatts output from 1,850 megawatts nameplate capacity. Several solar farms were near maximum output.
And as a result, pricing remained relatively low, at $29.13 per megawatt-hour at 10 a.m.
