Lithium in SK, Part 6: Direct Lithium Extraction is the multi-billion dollar question
Back in 1903, someone was going to invent the airplane.
People were working on it in New Zealand, Brazil, France, Germany and America. It just happened to be that two brothers who had a bicycle shop in Dayton, Ohio, travelled to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, and took off with the first airplane, the Wright Flyer.
But if they had not succeeded, one of the others almost certainly would have. It might have been 1904, or 1905, but powered flight was inevitable.
And that’s currently what’s happening in the world of lithium development from sedimentary brines.
Pipeline Online brief to House of Commons Natural Resources Committee on “Federal Assistance for Various Natural Resources Industries”
In late November Pipeline Online was approached by a member of the House of Commons Natural Resources Committee to submit a brief to that committee on the subject of “Federal Assistance for Various Natural Resources Industries.”
This is that brief, submitted on Nov. 25, by editor and owner Brian Zinchuk.
Lithium in SK, Part 5: Prairie Lithium – Old wells or new wells?
TORQUAY – Prairie Lithium’s president and CEO Zach Maurer first thought of producing lithium from the produced water that comes from oil wells. But that idea has since evolved into the pursuit of drilling directly for the highest concentrations of lithium. Still, extracting lithium from oil well brines is a possibility, too.
Here’s how Maurer explained it in late September, 2021, while in a shack during the drilling of the first lithium well in Saskatchewan.
Lithium in SK, Part 4: Prairie Lithium pursuing the idea there could be lithium in those brines
Lithium is one of the key resources in the quest for energy transition, and specifically for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and greater electrification of the global economy. As the lightest metal on the periodic table, it is a key component in battery chemistries, especially in anything that needs to move. There is simply no substitute that can match its lightness – crucial for everything from cellular phones to electric pickup trucks.
While other companies have been active in land acquisition, Prairie Lithium has been leading the charge, out in the field, testing its technology, and, in late September of 2021, it was the first to put a drill bit to rock.
Lithium in SK, Part 3: Crown land sale reveals sixth entrant in Saskatchewan lithium exploration race
This entire large checkerboard of land in the Carlyle/Redves/Alida/SStorthoaks area was permitted by newcomer Flowing Lithium Exploration. Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and ResourcesREGINA – The Nov. 21 Crown mineral rights sale revealed a sixth entrant in the...
