Saskatchewan’s Top 10 conventional oil wells in December, 2023. BlincSoftware
Whitecap and Surge are within spitting distance of each in the race for the top conventional well in Saskatchewan. Additionally, despite being old enough to have collected a pension cheque for several years, the Weyburn Unit can still produce the top well in the province.
That’s according to the Top 10 conventional wells in Saskatchewan for December, 2023, published by BlincSoftware. Blinc compiles its numbers from data provided by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources. Much more detailed information can be found at BlincSoftware’s Canadian Petroleum Registry.
This month was a close one:
- Whitecap Resources Inc. edged out Surge Energy Inc. for the top spot by one bbl/day. They came in at an average of 339 and 338 bbl oil/day respectively.
- Whitecap Resources Inc. also had a total of four wells within the top 10. Positions 1, 8 and 9 were in the Weyburn Unit, while its No. 6 well was in the Steelman Unit.
- Surge’s two wells on the list, in No. 2 and No 5, were both in the Lampman area and previously Astra locations.
- Seven of the Top 10 were on the eastern side of the province, three were on the western side.
- Canadian Natural Resources Limited came in at the third spot with their 109/15-28-048-23W3/00 well. It produced an average of 301 bbl oil /day.
- Also in the Top 10 were Vermilion Energy Inc. at fourth, with 301 bpd, Cenovus Energy Inc. in seventh at 281 bpd, and Baytex Energy Ltd. in tenth at 273 bpd
- The CNRL, Cenovus and Baytex wells were all heavy oil. The remaining seven well were light oil.
