“Coal generation has long been a cornerstone of Saskatchewan’s power supply due to its reliability and affordability.”

Several letters of support were written backing the province’s move to rebuilt its coal fleet, announced on June 18. This letter is from the City of Estevan Mayor Tony Sernick. Note, there will be an in-depth story interviewing Sernick published next week, after the long weekend:

To whom it may concern:

I am writing to express my full support of the Government of Saskatchewan’s commitment to extend the life of Saskatchewan’s coalfired power units. This is a generational decision that is a critical step toward protecting our province’s energy security and economic stability. The leadership shown in standing up for Saskatchewan’s interests and advocating for energy sovereignty is both necessary and appreciated.

Coal generation has long been a cornerstone of Saskatchewan’s power supply due to its reliability and affordability. Communities like Estevan and Coronach have built their livelihoods around the coal industry. Its continued operation ensures these communities with economic activity to grow and provide the people of Saskatchewan with energy.

On behalf of the city and council, I would like to thank everyone involved for defending the importance of coal in our energy mix and investing in solutions that work for our province.
