Scott Saxberg, oilman turned author, has released a new book in recent days – Cadillac Wheels: A Country Music-Inspired Thriller.
The former president and CEO of Crescent Point Energy, recipient of Saskatchewan Oilperson of the Year and now head of Cache Island Resources spoke with Pipeline Online about the new book at the Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Show on June 3.
Saxberg said, “My first book is World War Two historical fiction, Those We Carry. The second one is called Cadillac Wheels.
“It’s about a private equity CEO and a young country music singer, and it’s a psychological thriller.”
“A private equity CEO whose son has died in a car accident, and this kid’s voice reminds him of his son, who was a musician as well. And so he takes him on to help him, but then finds out that he was involved with an accident with his daughter, with his girlfriend, and then it gives him the urge to want to kill.
“And so he has this dilemma of having his son’s song played with the country music singer, or murder him.”
Asked where he came up with the plot, he said, “It started out with what if a CEO stopped by and helped a young busker.
“And then it was like, well, what music did he play? Okay, country music. Why did he stop? And it just sort of evolved from there, and so the story kind of built out.
“Part of it is, I yeah, it’s kind of ties in some of my business life, and, and oil and gas a little bit in Calgary and Saskatchewan. So, where he comes from is Shaunavon, Saskatchewan.”
Cadillac Wheels came out in mid-July and is available on Amazon here. It is available in paperback and Kindle formats.
