If I make an error in fact, I will issue a correction. So here goes:
In recent stories, opinion pieces and radio appearances, I have been quoting that Saskatchewan has drilled five natural gas wells over the last ten years, whereas Alberta drilled that by four a.m. this morning, starting at midnight.
Upon further analysis of the Alberta Economic Dashboard page, it has become clear that it takes Alberta 40 hours, not four, to drill the same number of gas wells Saskatchewan has done over the last decade. Alberta tends to drill around 90 targetted gas wells per month. Saskatchewan generally drills zero.
The point is still the same – Saskatchewan domestic natural gas production has essentially flatlined, and any new natural gas demand from Saskatchewan, particularly for power generation, will need to come from Alberta. But there was an error in calculation, and I apologize for that error.
