Random Thoughts of Anger
Some days we just need to go off about shit. And by shit I mean whatever is making me upset, angry, befuddled, bewildered, confused, pissed off and generally unsettled. (so yeah, shit) When John Gormley was on the radio he had the weekly segment “Bugs Day, The Hour of Rage,” I don’t know if he owns the rights, but I ain’t gonna steal it. My friend Evan Bray now uses “Bugs and Hugs” on his show, I’m pretty sure there won’t be any hugs issued by me today. So that ain’t happening. The Seinfeld television show had “The Airing of Grievances.” So “Random Thoughts of Anger” it is. Fortunately for me, (Maybe not for y’all) pipelineonline.ca gives me the opportunity to rant a bit.
First off, PM Mark Carney enjoying $200,000 worth of food on three separate flights. Now I get having to eat meals on long flights. (God knows those dry pretzels and cookies on West-Jet and Air Canada certainly hit the spot….) But, Scottish salmon fillets, specialty beef with cream sauce and I’m certain some pretty fine wine? Meanwhile record numbers of Canadians line up at food banks and most gasp at prices at the grocery store. That’s beyond a disconnect from the taxpayers, its outrageous. Pack some nice sandwiches, some fancy Pringles potato chips, and some decent Canadian beers. You could feed everyone on the flights for way under ten grand. I flew business class a couple of times, and the sandwiches were fantastic. Side note: My father-in-law Steve told me about the president of a lumber company he worked for back in the day. He would have a lunch meeting with his management team and sit down with a sandwich he made himself. A very wealthy but humble man. For all you Liberal party supporters, this is known as “leading by example.”

Next up, the “green energy transition.” What I find interesting is many groups are dialing back the doomsday scenarios. Some people have commented that the need for “Data Centres” which require vast amounts of energy to operate have suddenly become more important than the environment. I have also read that the public has grown weary of the constant bombardment of end of the world predictions, as have I and my circle of friends and colleagues. This is because since at least 1960, every single climate crisis predicted by the “experts” has failed to come true. (Just for context, this is not anywhere close to a complete list)
1960-Worldwide famine by 1995.
1970- Ice age by 2000.
1970- Killer Bees!
1971- New ice age by 2020.
1974- Space satellites show new ice age coming fast.
1976- Scientific consensus, planet cooling, famine imminent.
1978- No end in sight to 30-year cooling trend.
1988- Maldives will be underwater by 2018.
1989- Rising sea levels will obliterate nations if nothing done by 2000. (Where is the global cooling we were promised?)
2000- Children won’t know what snow is.
2008- Al Gore predicts ice-free Arctic by 2013. He has recently said that the world could suddenly freeze. This from a man with three, count ’em three estates. Not homes, estates. (His net worth is around 300 million USD BTW) Unmitigated hubris doesn’t even come close.
2009- Prince Charles says we have 96 months to save the world. (From aliens maybe?)

This the short list and barely scratches the surface. The common thread is the number of people that are getting rich or are already wealthy. If it was so dire, wouldn’t they do this for free? People who want to hold control have been predicting the end of the earth since the beginning of civilization. It’s never about saving the planet; it’s about who is running it.
Lastly on today’s list, the amount of money spent on the green initiatives in Canada. In the past decade Canada has spent nearly 160 billion dollars on so-called ‘green incentives.” Along side this, 917 million dollars (2019 to 2023) has been collected by the federal government for the industrial carbon tax. It sounds like a lot of money BECAUSE IT IS! In a time where Canadians complain about substandard health care, homelessness and of course, the enormous drug problem we face. And the money we do allocate to these problems simply treats the societal symptoms and offers no cure. This also applies to all levels of government that never solve problem but are willing to take our tax dollars and take credit for attempting to fix said problems, even though that never happens.
So, to Recap my grievances for today I have provided some simple solutions:
Back off on elitest government spending, make a damn sandwich for the next trip.
Quit making dire predictions that never come true, solve nothing and scare the crap out of our children.
(Mainstream media, pay attention to that last line.)
And please, pretty please do not waste anymore money on the non-existent problems created by government and special interest groups, and re-direct the resources to real problems that actually exist, most likely created by the very same government and special interest groups.
There you have it. (For now, anyway) Will my little rant fix anything? Nope. Do I feel better? Maybe a little.
