“This is a practical and common-sense decision that reflects a true understanding of the needs of both our community and the province as a whole.”

Several letters of support were written backing the province’s move to rebuilt its coal fleet, announced on June 18. This letter is from the RM of Estevan Reeve Jason LeBlanc, home to the Boundary Dam and Shand River Power Stations near Estevan:

Honourable Jeremy Harrison

Minister of Crown Investments Corporation

Legislative Building

Regina, SK

Dear Minister Harrison,

On behalf of the RM of Estevan No. 5, we would like to express our strong support and sincere appreciation for the decision to keep the coal mines and power plants open in our municipality.

This is a practical and common-sense decision that reflects a true understanding of the needs of both our community and the province as a whole. Maintaining these operations ensures continued access to affordable and reliable electricity for all Saskatchewan residents while providing stable employment and economic benefits for our local workforce. This decision brings much-needed certainty for families, businesses, and workers who rely on these industries.

We also support the Government of Saskatchewan’s decision to lead and direct our Crown utility. As a publicly owned corporation, SaskPower Corporation belongs to the people of this province and necessary that our elected government play an active role in ensuring that decisions made by the utility reflect the best interests of Saskatchewan residents.

We commend those involved in making this important decision and support ongoing efforts to ensure the long-term success of these operations.

Sincerely,

Jason LeBlanc

Reeve,

RM of Estevan
