Rex Murphy was the keynote speaker at the Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Show on June 1, 2022. This video has not been previously published before today, May 9. 2024, the day Murphy passed away at the age of 77. He was a huge supporter of the energy industry, and his wisdom and wit will be surely missed. This video is a tribute to his legacy and advocacy. The likes of Rex will never be heard from again.
He spent most of his career with CBC, but spent his later years fiercely criticizing the path the Mother Corp. had taken, as indicated in the two speech below.
Be sure to read the obituary on the National Post. He wrote his final column for them just a few days ago. Unbelievable.

And if you’ve never seen his 2019 keynote speech to the Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Show, here it is:
Rex Murphy was the headline speaker at the Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Show in Weyburn, Sask., on June 6, 2019. His message? The energy industry saved Newfoundland in its darkest hour. Its jobs provide dignity, and our society is entirely dependent on it. We should be thankful for the energy industry, not trying to block it at every path.

Tributes to Rex Murphy:
Canada has lost an icon, a pioneer of independent, eloquent, and fearless thought, and always a captivating orator who never lost his touch.
I was honoured to toast to Rex a few months ago on receiving the Game Changers Award for one of this country's true game changers.

Rex Murphy, born in Newfoundland before it even entered Confederation, was a strong advocate for western Canada. That’s because he was a fiercely proud Canadian who believed every part of Canada should be treated fairly because every part of Canada makes our nation stronger.…

A loss to the country. He was eloquent and stalwart in his defense of and advocacy for the interests of the west. Thank you for that Rex. RIP. https://t.co/ODFUR44CMF
